The National Theatre’s epic WAR HORSE, winner of five 2011 Tony® Awards includingBest Play, will make its Atlanta debut at the Fox Theatre September 25-30, aspart of the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta 2012-13 season.

WAR HORSE has been seen by almost 2 millionpeople worldwide and is currently playing at New York’s Lincoln Center Theater, in London’sWest End, and at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre.Future productions of WAR HORSE are planned for Australia,Berlin, and South Africa, as well as a UK Tour.

WAR HORSE will play in Atlanta at the Fox Theatre September 25-30.The performance schedule is Tuesday-Saturday evening at 8 p.m.; Saturdaymatinee at 2 p.m.; and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Michael Morpurgo’s novel, War Horse, is also the inspiration forSteven Spielberg’s feature film of the same name, which earned six Oscarnominations including Best Picture.

Hailed by The New York Timesas “theatrical magic,” WAR HORSE is the powerful story of young Albert’sbeloved horse, Joey, who has been enlisted to fight for the English in WorldWar I. In a tale the New York Daily News calls “spellbinding, by turnsepic and intimate,” Joey is caught in enemy crossfire and ends up serving bothsides of the war before landing in no man’s land.



Albert, not old enough toenlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home.What follows is a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty, and friendship filledwith stirring music and songs and told with the some of the most innovativestagecraft of our time.

The tourof WAR HORSE, based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo andadapted by Nick Stafford, will be directed by BijanSheibani based on the original Tony® Award-winning direction by MarianneElliott and Tom Morris, and presented in association with HandspringPuppet Company. At the heart of the show are life-sized puppets which bringbreathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

Inaddition to Best Play, WAR HORSE received Tony® Awards for Best Direction of a Play (MarianneElliott and Tom Morris), Best Scenic Design of a Play (Rae Smith),Best Lighting Design of a Play (Paule Constable), and Best Sound Designof a Play (Christopher Shutt).  A Special Tony Award was given toHandspring Puppet Company for their integral work on the production.

The tour will rehearse and previewat Boise StateUniversity’s MorrisonCenter in Idahobefore beginning performances at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, June 14 - July 29, 2012. Afterthe Los Angeles engagement, the North American tour will visit San Francisco,Dallas, Atlanta, Durham, Boston, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, EastLansing, Des Moines, Chicago, Costa Mesa, Tempe, Seattle, Portland, Spokane,St. Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Tampa, Ft. WAR HORSE received its World Premiere in a limited engagement at the National’sOlivier Theatre in 2007. The play returned to the National Theatre for a secondrun playing from in 2008-2009 before transferring to the West End’s New London Theatre in Spring 2009 where it continues to playan open-ended run. WAR HORSE has been seen by almost 2 millionpeople worldwide.

The lead producers of the National Tour of WAR HORSE are Bob Boyett and theNational Theatre of Great Britain.
