Welcome to Birch and Burlap!

My name is Debbie.  This is my home, and I am happy to meet you!

I started this website (a.k.a. blog) back in 2009.  This was back when blogs were popular, fashionable, and money makers.  Over time, blogs tended to go the wayside.

Hello and welcome to my blog!

I hope you will enjoy your time here.  My name is Debbie, and to make a long story short, I started this little blog, back in the Summer of 2009, with little more than an above-average knowledge of computers and the internet.

Back then, I was finding a lot of deals around the internet and was rapidly posting them to my facebook wall or as notes within facebook.  As time passed, I realized I was not only clogging up my own facebook wall but all of my friends' walls as well!  I wanted to move from facebook to a more independent medium, but I had so many people asking me what new deals I had run across that I didn't know what to do.  I didn't want to leave anyone stranded or possibly missing out on a good deal.

It was then that I also became active in social media networking and began to meet a lot of Disney bloggers.  As most of you know, my other passion (i.e., hobby) is Disney.  My family and I take several trips to Disney each year, and I run several races down there as well throughout the year.  As my friendships with these women grew, they introduced and began to teach me about the world of blogging, and it was like I had entered into a completely new world!  My OCD Triple-A personality kicked into high-gear, and I was off and running.

I became intrigued by this "blosphere," and began to digest everything I could find on setting up a blog and learning a little HTML along the way.  Before I knew it, I had set up this blog and began to grow!  I have loved growing and meeting so many new friends.  Friends that I couldn't imagine my life without now.

I am also, through this blog, able to help and serve others to save money and find out how to get things cheaper than they are accustomed to or maybe even getting some things for **FREE.**

It is such a great feeling knowing I am spending time doing something I love while helping other people in the process.  Such a blessing.

I've always wished I had more time.  More time to spend on this blog.  More time to find the deals.  More time to post them.  My appetite for more time is ever-consuming.  However, this blog is not what is most important in my life.  Along with being the owner of this blog, I am also (and most importantly) a Mother.  I have two boys, ages 15 and 12, who are the joy and center of my life, home, and heart.

We are very active in our church and in our community.  Both my boys are active in school and sports, and I teach in a local preschool, where I have been serving families in Forsyth County for over 11 years now.  I also have the honor and privilege of running the North Georgia local chapter of Treat the Troops, a wonderful nonprofit organization that ships homemade cookies overseas to our troops throughout the year.

It's a busy season of life, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.  My faith, my God, my boys, and my friends all combine to make me who I am.  Someday, I will look back at these busy days and thank God for all of them!

My hope is that you will find a few gleams of light from this blog, and it will help you get through your day or even your week with just a little bit more money left in your pocket and a little bit more food stockpiled in your pantry.
