Adult Puppetry Performances Celebrate Collaboration and Experimentation

WHAT:            Xperimental Puppetry Theater by Various Artists

Artists of all disciplines join forces to create bold, original performances in Xperimental Puppetry Theater (XPT). For only four nights, May 14-17, patrons can experience these creative short puppet performances and films from 11 different teams comprised of more than 40 artists.  The lineup is as follows:

·         “Deus Ex Machina,” two explorers investigate a world of clockwork machinery

·         “The Nose,” film in which a man loses his nose and finds it living a more interesting life on its own

·         “From Beyond,” based on the H.P. Lovecraft story of a man investigating mysterious disappearances

·         “Roommate,” film in which a young woman is frustrated by her roommate’s loud sexual interactions

·         “A Penny Dreadful,” raconteurs tell a tall tale about a man driven crazy by the sun

·         “S.Lenderman,” a “live movie” that explores the recent mythos of the Slenderman

·         “Bean and Bear Presents,” two imaginary friends ask for audience suggestions to perform puppet shows

·         “The Room,” based on “The Yellow Wallpaper” a woman confined to her room drifts into madness

·         “Nanaboozhoo: Firebringer,” Native American tale of how men got fire

·         “Worm Hole,” a rock opera set in a gay bar in space

·         “A Frivolous Age,” a marionette installation drawing parallels between the modern age and Rococo period

For more than 30 years, XPT has allowed the Center for Puppetry Arts to invite theater newcomers and seasoned professionals alike to collaborate and showcase their talents by writing, directing, constructing and performing experimental works for the puppet stage. Recommended for ages 18 and older ONLY, XPT proves that puppets are definitely not just for kids.  A beer and wine bar will be open before the show and during intermission.

Kermit and friends are getting a new home at the Center for Puppetry Arts! The nation’s largest nonprofit dedicated to the art of puppetry has begun construction on a 7,500 square foot museum expansion. Set to be completed in fall 2015, the museum will feature objects from the Center’s extensive global collection and will display the world’s most comprehensive collection of Jim Henson's contributions to the world of puppetry. The project also includes a major renovation to existing spaces, including a renovated entryway, expanded research library and many other upgrades that will enhance the overall experience for all visitors to the Center.
