Wow! Treat the Troops Hits Our Mark!

Hello and welcome to my blog! To receive these deals daily, sign up for my **FREE** e-mail newsletter or subscribe to my automatic RSS feed. If you'd like a printable copy of this post, please see the link below. Thank you for stopping by!

Well, if you read my last post, you know that May has been a crazy month!

My  preschool year ended last week, and last night, we had our May Treat the Troops mailing.  Although the above picture is not from last night's packing, it is still representative of what we do each month at Treat the Troops.

If you're not familiar with Treat the Troops, it is a National nonprofit organization that receives e-mails from America's soldiers (all across the world) requesting homemade cookies.  Did you know that something as wonderful and delicious (and common here in America) as chocolate is not readily available in some overseas countries?  Nope, it's not.

It turns out that one of the most requested items from our troops serving away from America is COOKIES.  Yes, good old-fashioned, American, home-baked COOKIES.

Therefore, Treat the Troops was founded to help the men and women serving in America's armed forces receive homemade cookies--something they miss terribly!  I know it sounds simple, right?  Well, it is!

About every 6 to 8 weeks, I (and my beloved group of co-workers-we call ourselves "Crumbs") begin to solicit homemade cookies from bakers everywhere.  Once we have the date and time set up, we meet together to package and mail them out.  (This entire mailing-out process only takes us about an hour of time.)

Last night, we were able to send out 55 boxes, which totals out to over 3,000 cookies!  (3,300 to be EXACT!)  Along with the cookies, we put whatever else we can into the boxes--toiletries, candies, washclothes, towelettes, hand warmers, pens, cards, magazines--anything that will fit basically.

It is amazing what such a simple and non-time-consuming act can mean to a man or women serving our country far away from all the people they love.  If you check out my twitter page, you will see a page of Jeanette Cram in the sidebar; she is the woman that started Treat the Troops "way back when."

One day I will have to share with you how I got involved with Jeanette and her wonderful military support troop.  That's a whole other story in itself!

Two more quick things I want to note.  One, if you are unable to bake for us or live too far way, why not consider donating postage funds to our group?  We are always in need of postage funds to cover our mailings overseas, AND since this is a nonprofit group, all donations are tax deductible!  (Woot!)

...and two, "THANK YOU!" to all the wonderful people that came out last night, to those of you that dropped off your cookies, and to those of you that brought in items to stuff the boxes with.  Your generosity never goes unnoticed.  You have been seen and you have been counted.

Thank you.
