GODDARD SCHOOLS TEAM UP WITH CHILDREN’S RESTORATION NETWORK
FOR
BACK-2-SCHOOL BACKPACK DRIVE
Local Schools
Collect School Supplies to Benefit Underprivileged Children in
Atlanta
Goddard Schools in Georgia
are helping children “make the grade” this school year by partnering with The
Children’s Restoration Network for its annual Back-2-School Backpack
Drive. From Monday, July 16 to Friday, July 27, children and
families at all 27 Georgia locations of The Goddard School will be collecting
backpacks and school supplies such as ruled paper, notebooks, crayons, pencils,
pens, rulers and glue to benefit underprivileged children in the Atlanta
area.
More
than 3,900 homeless children will live in 134 group homes and shelters
throughout 20 metro-Atlanta counties during the 2012-2013 school year, and most
of these kids will arrive with little more than a bag of
clothes. “For
a homeless child entering a new school, surrounded by new kids and new teachers,
coming in that first day without a book bag or school supplies serves as a
reminder of how they are different and how they don’t fit in,” says Cliff
Kinsey, CEO of Children's Restoration Network. “With our annual Back-2-School
Program, we try to provide all of these homeless children in shelters and group
homes with new book bags and all the necessary school supplies so that they can
enter their schools feeling confident and prepared. We’re thrilled that Goddard
Schools are helping us to accomplish our mission this
year.”
Children at The Goddard School®
are equally excited about being able to help underprivileged
children their own age in Atlanta. "So many of our children come from homes
where they never have to think about where their stuff comes from," said Chris
Dibbling-West, Atlanta spokesperson for The Goddard School. "This is a great
chance to teach our children to give of themselves. Many of the children are so
excited when they are able to pick out items for another child."
All
metro-Atlanta Kroger Supermarkets will be serving as public drop-off sites for
the Back-2-School Drive. Members of the Atlanta community who would like to
donate and contribute can drop off backpacks filled with school supplies at
their local Kroger store between July 16 and 28. For a complete list of
participating Kroger locations, visit http://bit.ly/back2schooldrive.
