Children’s Museum of Atlanta Makes the Holidays with Merry and Bright Festive Activities Throughout December

 

Families are invited to experience the magic of the Children’s Museum of Atlanta this December and enjoy Snow Days programs, where families can celebrate and learn about a range of holidays – from Hanukah to Kwanzaa.

The beloved Sockefeller Plaza skating returns, inviting kids to grab their favorite pair of socks and glide around the 200-square-foot rink. Little ones are invited to discover the secrets of how penguins stay warm while indulging in more human comforts like homemade mittens and weekly hot chocolate hours. To cap the season off, the Museum’s annual New Year’s Eve Bubble Bash returns

December Special Programming:

Snow Days at CMA - Cold weather brings with it new and exciting events for little ones! They are invited on stage for story times and snowball fights, while over in the Building Blocks they can make ski slopes and merry holiday music. Visitors will learn to determine just how cold the air is and make paper snowmen friends.

CMA On Stage - “The Snow Dancer” by Addie Boswell & Snowball Fight + “Winter: A Solstice Story” by Kelsey Gross + “The Snow Dancer” by Addie Boswell & Snowball Fight
Session A: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and Noon / Session B: 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m.

Science Bar - Little explorers will uncover the secrets of the Arctic as they learn about the how and why of the seasons and what penguins do to stay warm penguins stay warm!
Session A: 9:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Jane’s Innovation Station - Jane’s Innovations Station will be magically transformed into “Sockefeller Plaza” where little ones can hone their skating skills. Traditional Innovation Station programming will not be held this month.
Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m.

Art Studio - Guests will get to make their own mittens and foldable snowmen friends to help stay toasty during the colder holiday months.

Building Blocks - Toddlers will enjoy special interactive programs every weekday in December! Artsy Mondays, Tinkerin’ Tuesdays, Messy Thursdays, and Jammin’ Fridays are packed with exciting activities. Little ones get to craft, cook, and create their own winter wonderland essentials as they build ski slopes, go on snow day quests, concoct “Hot Chocolate Glop,” and toss up a snowball masterpiece.

Snow Days Kick-Off - Families are invited to join the Museum for small servings of hot chocolate upstairs during its Snow Days opening weekend!
Saturday, Dec. 2, 3 p.m. only

Winter Solstice Celebration - Saturday, Dec. 2
Guests can celebrate the winter solstice with an awe-inspiring performance by the specialty dance group, Full Radius Dance.
Session A: Noon / Session B: 2 p.m.

Holiday PJ Movie Night - The Museum will serve delicious treats and show a screening of Pixar’s “Inside Out” as it celebrates its special exhibit Emotions at Play.
Saturday, Dec. 2, 5:30 p.m. only

Cocoa Mondays - Hot chocolate will be available to all guests upstairs every Monday throughout the cold December Mondays.
Monday, Dec. 4, 11 and 18, 2 – 3 p.m. 

Hanukah Celebration - Children and their families are invited to join the Museum as it embarks on a fun-filled day of Hanukah festivities.
Sunday, Dec. 10

PJ Library - Little ones are invited to a fun-filled day of reading and adventure as they learn all about the history and traditions of Hanukah.
Session A: 11 a.m. / Session B: 3 p.m.

Los Posadas Celebration - Kids are invited to dance along with Alma Mexicana as they celebrate Los Posadas.

Christmas Celebration - Peachtree Puppets’ cast of eccentric, colorful characters will host a Christmas celebration that is bound to make the whole family laugh.
Saturday, Dec. 23, Session A: 11 a.m. / Session B: 3 p.m. 

Kwanzaa Celebration - Families can learn the traditions and stories of Kwanzaa with Nguzo Babies through puppetry and a video performance.
Tuesday, Dec. 26, Session A: 11 p.m. / Session B: 3 p.m

Special Opening - The Museum will open its doors for kids and parents to learn and play on the Wednesday between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Bubble Bash - Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s annual special kid-friendly New Year’s countdown is back with tons of laughs, dancing, games, and more. Guests are set to enjoy live music from the DJ and ring in the new year with the annual bubble-wrap-popping tradition! Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available here.

Continuing in December:

Emotions at Play with Pixar’s Inside Out - Families are invited to dig deep into their feelings and explore Emotions at Play with Pixar’s Inside Out, the newest feature exhibit at Children’s Museum of Atlanta. This exhibit, based on the popular hit Disney and Pixar animated feature Inside Out, helps guests understand the important role emotions, memory, and imagination play in their everyday lives. Created by Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios, the limited time exhibit will run through Jan. 7, 2024. This exhibit is also sponsored locally by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Strong for Life.
