In the past, I have blogged on the fantastic Toy Story 1 & 2 Blu-ray combo pack deals floating around.
It has now come to my attention that there are some confusing scenarios popping up. Let's try to straighten them all out!
First of all, the Amazon deal that I posted about back in February, while a good deal, will not be your BEST deal. Each DVD will end up averaging out around $11.50 each. While this is still a good deal for a Disney Blu-ray, there are better scenarios out there this week.
Secondly, the Target deal. Everyone, it seems, has run out and done the Target deal. BUT...what we are now finding out is that this deal is not as sweet as originally thought to be.
Contrary to everyone else's Toy Story 1 packaging, Target is NOT including a **FREE** ticket in their packaging. Why is this? I don't know. Sometimes, Target runs special deals with Disney, and maybe this is one of those times. Whatever the scenario may be between Target & Disney, I think it's unfair. If all the other retailers are offering a **FREE** ticket to Toy Story 3 inside their Toy Story 1 Blu-ray combo pack, then why should Target's packaging be any different. It seems like the 'ole bait-and-switch tactic to me. Shame on you Disney for pulling this one! It's one thing to offer us additional items inside the packaging, but to give us less items? That's just not right.
Thirdly, the Disney Store is offering another deal. This deal is good only if you can use the included gift card before April 6th. They are offering both Blu-ray combo sets at $25 each. Once you take off your two (2) $10 coupons, your total will come down to $30. IF you can use the $20 store credit, you are now down to $10 for both Blu-ray sets. Then, if you factor in BOTH $8.50 movie tickets, you will make $7 on the Disney Store promo. Plus, they are throwing in a 5-piece set of trading pins to boot. This is an extremely sweet deal, if (like I said above) you can use the $20 gift card.
However, as most of us adult, true-blue Disney fans sadly realize, the Disney Store has lost the magic it once had. Don't get me wrong--I LOVE going to the Disney Store, and I still drag my teenager in there every time we are at the mall. But, it has lost the charm and character it had back in its infancy and hey day. Gone are the collectibles and adult attire. Today, sadly--the Disney Store is just another toy store, full of things geared toward the preschool set. It's my opinion, I realize, but to me-it's sad that Disney has opted to leave out the rest of us and our potential spending power in lieu of marketing directly to younger children.
If this gift card was going to be valid indefinitely, say up through the Christmas season, I would be more than HAPPY to do their deal over Target's. I think the Disney Store SHINES during the Christmas season. The ornaments they've put out over the past several years rally any other Disney ornaments on the market. (I've managed to garner a whole new set of them over the past two or three years thanks to their great creations and low prices.)
However (again), Disney has chosen to put their customers in a box by putting limits on the $20 gift card that comes with their promotion. So sad Disney. Why couldn't you give us a deal that would rival the big mass marketing retailers?
So, to sum things up--those are the three main scenarios out right now for Toy Story 1 and 2. If you find any other deals, please let me know (by either leaving a comment here or by contacting me on facebook or twitter). ...OR if you find that I have written anything in error, please let me know that too.
I do my best to keep you guys informed, and I want to make sure all the information I put on here is correct! We work hard for our money every day, and I want to make sure we spend it as wisely as possible!

ReplyDeleteI'm looking at this weeks Target ad. It says:
FREE Toy Story 3 movie ticket in each
SAVE $10 instantly when you buy both 1 & 2
Free Target exclusive DVD-ROM game in each
So if the ticket is not included, Target has a problem.

Really? That's very interesting. I'm going to pull the ad from my paper and double-check it in the ATL version.
ReplyDeleteIf mine does indeed say that (and I hope it does), I'm going right back to Target.
Because it just didn't make sense that Target would be the ONLY big retailer that didn't include a ticket in the Toy Story 1 pack.
Thanks Cathy!!
