Pike Nurseries to host ‘Hydrangea Jubilee’ event on Saturday, May 2
Garden center highlights Hydrangeas with devoted event, customer classes, and more – just in time for Mother’s Day!
With big, billowy blossoms in pretty pastels, Hydrangeas flaunt a certain classic charm that has become a staple in many Southern gardens.
In honor of these elegant shrubs, Pike Nurseries is hosting its annual Hydrangea Jubilee on Saturday, May 2 at all store locations. Customers can learn how to plant and care for hydrangeas during two FREE classes – one during the devoted day on Saturday, May 2, at 9 a.m. and one on Wednesday, May 6 at 1 p.m.
Guests will even learn how to change their flower color by adding sulfur or alkaline to the soil. Whether it’s for a gorgeous Mother’s Day gift or just for enhancing the home, now is the perfect time to plant Hydrangeas and enjoy their blooming beauty for months to come.
The Hydrangea hype doesn’t end with the weekend event – Pike Nurseries is also featuring four special Hydrangea varieties, including the Annabelle, Nantucket Blue, Blue Enchantress, and After Midnight, in stores through Wednesday, May 6. These vary in color, shape, size and light requirements, making them perfect additions for landscapes and gardens of all kinds.
· Annabelle Hydrangeas – This popular variety, which belongs to the Aborescens Hydrangeas family, showcases stunning white blooms from late spring to early fall and prefers partial shade. They also have very large, heavy flowers, so it is best to either support them with a cage or plant them by a decorative fence. Annabelle Hydrangeas can reach up to 12-inches across and rapidly grows up to 5-feet-tall and wide.
· Nantucket Blue Hydrangeas – Boasting beautiful blue flowers, these hydrangeas bloom on old and new wood from early summer until the first frost. Plant them in acidic soil, like Pike Azalea, Camellia, and Gardening Planting Mix. They prefer partial shade in the landscape and can grow to be 6-feet-tall and wide.
· Blue Enchantress Hydrangeas – NEW this year, this re-blooming variety has stately, ruby-black stems and big, blue mophead flowers in blue or pink – depending on the soil acidity. Blue Enchantress Hydrangeas make for lovely cut flower arrangements. They prefer shade or partial sun and can grow to be 5-feet-tall and wide.
· After Midnight Hydrangeas – This gorgeous hydrangea variety, which was developed in the South specifically for Georgia and North Carolina gardens, features dark pink to lavender-blue flowers that contrast against rich, green foliage. After Midnight Hydrangeas flaunt their stunning blooms from summer through fall. They thrive in partial shade and can grow to be 4-feet-tall and wide.
